This is exactly what I (2.5 months postpartum) needed to hear, thank you! I’ve been wanting to edit down my wardrobe for a year but being pregnant was afraid to do it and now I’m unsure of what fits/if it will ever fit again/when. It makes it so hard. I think I need to lean into the 3 words method, find things that work for my body now to create a capsule for this time/changing body and give it time. Thank you for your honest and reflective take on this!

Thank you so much for sharing so authentically— this stuff isn’t easy; it helps to see others walking the path in a real way that’s not just “here I am smiling as I blend my own peaches” 😘

Postpartum fashion is a ride for sure! Two items come to mind that helped me feel like me in all the floor and covered in food phases. An oversized, distressed denim jacket with lots of internal pockets (for snacks, little toys etc) that made my leggings and oversized tshirt feel more purposeful and cool; and my Bonnie and Kind cross body handbag that I asked my husband and parents to buy me for my first Christmas as a Mum. Wearing a beautiful leather bag made me feel like myself, but it’s designed to completely open and fit baby essentials.

I love even just the idea of this post because it seems like a small issue to push aside but it's a challenge women are faced with every single day for months on end on top of having to figure out how to keep a small human alive. Kudos to you for sharing! Also, I gifted myself the same Artipoppe carrier and it filled that need of having something nice to accessorize with. A little leopard with some stretchy leggings (Lululemon Align style in particular) and I was good to go!

The artipoppe with the align pants was what I wore for like five months straight! x

So many people are dealing with this every single day, really refreshing and compelling to read about it. I now have a three year old and currently feel the frustration of not having the time to really think about how I want to look and ending up in the same things too often. Although weirdly I’ve found I seem to look better often when I don’t over think it and just wear what stands out in my wardrobe. Just worry my clothes are leaning a little… boring… after doing a big clear out in year 2 post partum. Who even am I now? And will someone help me work out how to wear this oversized pink blazer 😆

Also keen for advice on how to wear the oversized pink blazer I impulse purchased 6 months postpartum and can't figure out haha

Finally wearing the blazer today! I’ve gone for cropped barrel leg grey jeans, flat black square toe ankle boots, black tshirt and a forest green cross body bag. Feeling kind of amazing actually. Only way I could do this was to actually book a day off work so I had time to try some things out though 😆

Loved this. Any advice for pregnancy purchases / style? I always read that people say don't buy much but my jeans are already too tight and uncomfortable! Any brands you recommend?

I bought my favourite pair of jeans in the biggest size they did and managed to wear those until about two-thirds of the way through my pregnancy (they came in super handy afterwards too!). I also bought a pair of super stretchy flared ribbed leggings in cream from & Other Stories and I wore those to death under the bump. Linen trousers were great too. Just things with very stretchy waistbands that I could fit under the bump with button-up shirts. That was my go-to look! x

I bought a beautiful lightweight trench coat that I could throw over my increasingly stretchy dresses and pants and tops. It made me look more "together". For pants, I bought a maternity pair of jeans and some ponte style ones from H&M to tide me over. They were still very useful in the few months postpartum too.

I think the cool low rise baggy jean style that’s in right now lends itself to pregnancy so well! I’m 20 weeks postpartum and when I was pregnant just bought a pair of those in a size up and wore them unbuttoned under my belly, and they’ve been so comfy postpartum!

I also bought nice linen drawstring pants and wore them under the belly constantly - and didn’t have to go up in size

I‘m 13 months in and although I’m not necessarily a different size than before, my

shape is so different and I feel like none of my old clothes fit! Lots of them

Also weren’t breastfeeding friendly, so it’s mostly jeans and T-shirt for me now (which it wasn’t before). But then again, sitting on the floor the whole day in jeans isn’t the one either… and can we talk about postpartum hair. lol. I’m a mess. Looking forward to looking semi decent again… baby has some great outfits though!

Oh my gosh the hairloss is just next level! I'd say mine's taken the full two and a half years to shop shedding! Wild! x

Yes! Being the same clothing size but the shape is all different is big adjustment. My waist went squashy, which my daughter loves, but means all those waisted dresses and trousers do not fit like they used to.

Anna this blog post is so great, and reassuring. I'm finding that it's very rare to find "new Mom" information that's hopeful, and realistic, and grounded and not judgemental. I loved this so much I shared it with my husband who also found it so helpful (especially the "you can still have nice things" part). Totally understand staying away from "mommy" stuff but thank you so much for delving into this and giving me a lot of hope and realism to help me set expectations. <3

Thank you for this! My daughter is almost 18 months and I finally really feel back to myself. My wardrobe has changed, after many closet clean outs, and I totally love all your advice on this topic. 💕

Loved reading this, all of this! Also cannot agree with you more about being done wearing pregnancy clothes post-pregnancy - one of this biggest cautionary tales I give people!!! (Don't buy everything in a size up because you really might just not want to wear it afterwards, even if it "fits!). And yes, yes, yes to getting dressed. Just do it. Even if you have one fab outfit. It feels really, really good!!
