I feel like I say this to every single one of your newsletters but you've helped me so much in my personal style journey. In fact, I said to my husband the other day that my style in 2022 felt a little too simple (even though simple is one of my three words!). I was a full on t-shirts and jeans girl in the summer. This summer, I've added texture, more chic top options, bigger jewelry and different styles of bags into my rotation and I feel so so much better. There is something so great when you feel like yourself.

Also, thanks for putting in the effort of looking through your outfits from 2022 and re-styling them. The comparison is so great and applicable to your readers' wardrobes.

This is interesting reading, thanks. Love the idea of recipe vs ingredient dressing. A question about accessories, particularly bags: I feel (for me) that only works for the mirror check/outfit selfie and the commute. Once I’m where I’m going (work, restaurant, someone’s house), I’m not carrying the bag around with me, so I’ve lost that layer of texture. Do you feel this?

Yes Anna! This is the content 🙌 I really love that you dissect your looks and take us along for the journey. I think with instagram etc, you can feel not so great about yourself when you see X influencer share a photo of themselves in a very chic outfit that seems effortless, often thinking why can’t I achieve this. But this post exemplifies the process, how cultivating the pieces is one thing, but the styling or seasoning is the real step in elevating a look. I love that you take us through that trial and error and learning journey - no gate keeping here! Thank you for this content! X

Great read and framing the idea of "ingredient dressing" vs "recipe dressing" is such an intuitive analogy that communicates so much with so few words!

When I looked at your updates to your 2022 outfits, one thing I noticed and enjoyed, was that you'd integrate a warm item to balance to an otherwise cold palette. Not that the 2022 iteration wasn't solid, but that switchup gives the ensemble so much more dimension and life.

I love reading your posts because you’re the opposite of me - I’m the queen of color who hates sweaters and loves summer. But I have to cope with winter and sometimes neutrals are best and that’s why this content is so important.

Love love this Anna girl. As with all you write and the ideas you share. I feel like I’m starting to find my mojo too. And a look that’s ‘me’ and it’s game changing. Being plus sized has its challenges when trying to pin down a piece I want. But for the most part I’m really happy. Thanks for this great piece. Have a great week 😘😘😘

This was so brilliantly illustrated! From one baker to another, I love the concept of a recipe as a guide. Of course important to still strive for top quality ingredients, but the ability to mix things in and out feels so simple. The note you made about acquiring basics as an ode to a checklist, and ultimately feeling too basic, really stuck with me. Now I mix textures to create interest and often think of yours, Alison’s, and Irene’s guidance. Thanks for this gem!

It's so clear the way you've illustrated here! I can see you in the kitchen, tweaking the spices, squeezing a little lime. Which is saying a lot for someone who hasn't turned on her stove in a couple years :-) XX

This is so helpful Anna. The tip about mixing textures really spoke to me. I’m filtering out prints from my wardrobe as they are not really my style anymore, so adding texture to plain fabrics really works!

I love and relate to this so much! I just wrote about something similar in my newsletter. The quest for personal style is all about elements and piecing together the nuances of you!

This is such a great concept! I would love to see a follow up where you do a deeper dive into what your personal recipes are. When looking at your outfits from 2022 vs 2024, I'm seeing differences in silhouette, color and texture profiles, etc. but it would be so cool to read more of a break down there.
