Anna, I think this is my favourite piece of yours. I am a long time subscriber to your YouTube, I watch every single video and consume all of your content. But this one - YES! I feel so heard!!!! I much prefer a bit of a sleek style with boxy clean cuts. But summer seems all about flowy skirts, frilly things, colour and patterns. Somehow that made me drown up in the vortex of frills and colours that I would never wear if it wasn't summer. But this year, I want to bring that sleek chic into my summer wardrobe. Clean cuts, organic fabrics, mixing fabrics to create visual interest. Thank you for this, I am so excited to now play around with my own wardrobe.
Love this, I was just thinking this morning about your previous Substack about why we buy clothes for a life we do not live and I think I buy clothes for the weather we do not have!
HA!! βSTOP BUYING CLOTHES YOU HATEβ is the simplest, most effective and HARDEST advice! I think we all have those things that we buy out of obligation and donβt actually like; how silly we are! Thank you for this reminder.
I think youβre right thereβs this pressing βITS SUMMER!β pressure but actually not a lot changes in the UK and the dream summer in our minds eye actually feels very different on our bodyβs! And thatβs without adding air con into the equation.
I love this post because I hate summer dressing but for different reasons to you. I love your style but I do like dresses and a bit of pattern but when you return to Scotland after a summer holiday it might just never stop raining and possibly not be that warm.
Loved this and completely agree with the backless tops; I love how those look but ultimately never wear them. I've made a rule that I can't buy any backless tops unless I use the few I already have in my wardrobe (spoiler: I haven't).
I have definitely bought things for holidays and never worn them again, as we do not have that weather in the UK. I need to find my summer wardrobe essentials this year! Thanks for the recommendations.
I absolutely loathe summer clothes! Finding a way to feel like myself without dying of heat is often next to impossible. So thank you for this! I'll always feel like myself in a pair of trousers, too, as long as I'm not sweating to death.
I really feel that there is not enough said about the fact that not all of us are excited about summer dressing. I am a very pale-skinned person with low blood-pressure who lives in a country with long, relentlessly hot summers, which are just an ordeal. it took me a long time to realise that while I felt my winter wardrobe was bursting with creativity and self-expression, I needed a uniform for summer, and I do feel I've finally cracked it by keeping to shapes and fabrics that work for me, in the colours and patterns I need to FEEL like me (straight cotton cropped trousers/loose linen or silk trousers + sleeveless linen top/long llnen shirt-dress or shirt over trousers for cooler evenings/spring). Its hard to feel like yourself when you are uncomfortable, or feeling pressured by expectations of other people's ideas of seasonal dressing.
Hello Anna! I'm a new subscriber though long time follower of you and love your style:). I tried to locate the long sleeve button down shirt in the 7th photo where you're wearing cream colored pants and this white/cream-ish shirt, that I am obsessed with. It seems the link where you have to locate the outfit doesn't feature the button down and I'm hoping you can tell me where you bought it? Many thanks! Julie
Loved this. I live in a really hot country and never quite figured it out the whole βdress for when is 40 degreesβ. But the way you described here I know is going to be a game changer. Thank you!
Thank you Mark for taking a shower because this article was beyond helpful π I am so excited to finally become a summer style personππ»
Haha! Will pass the message on π

As a pale autumn myself I have never enjoyed summer dressing. Maybe this is the year I will xx
So true, couldnβt agree more with so many parts of it - one of my favourite fashion reads for a long whileππ»β¨
Oh Iβm so pleased to hear that! Thank you Imogen! X

So glad youβve found the summer pieces that work for you Louise! X
It is SO TRUE. We all lose our heads when confronted with certain style/trend/destination moments and fall for "shoulds" and "supposed tos."
Donβt we!!! All of a sudden Iβm buying Hawaiian shirts!!!

Thanks for subscribing Julie! Itβs the oversized cotton linen shirt from ARKET. Hope that helps! X
