Weekly Wardrobe #3
Sunday night outfit planning, what I've *actually* worn this week - sick days included! - and PARIS FASHION WEEK!
SUNDAY
This week’s style diary actually starts a whole day earlier than usual because last Sunday night I hauled myself away from watching RHONY (we stan Jenna, Bryn and Ubah in this house), and into the wardrobe because THE ITCH to pre-plan my outfits for the week was too much to ignore. Now I know I preach outfit planning ALL THE TIME, and look I’ve done it in the past with moderate-to-good success. But since the little guy came along I spend any hour past 7pm lying horizontal and I’m not sure I’ve pre-planned even one measly outfit. That was UNTIL THIS WEEK!!!! Did I wear all the outfits above as planned? Of course not. Some were great! Some were fine. And some were pretty bad (I’m looking at you top left!), and actually many of my plans for the week were cancelled. But it got my juices flowing (I also had a binge of Becky Malinsky’s *wonderful* Substack ‘5 Things You Should Buy’ which got them going too) and it meant that for most days this week I had some sort of direction that I knew I wanted to head in, and that at least was helpful.
MONDAY
We know the deal with Monday by now, right? It’s not a big working day for me as we have no childcare and we take Ralph to a swimming lesson, so I do a bit of admin and posting whilst he naps and in the evening. The swimming pool is SO HOT and slip on shoes without socks are a must and honestly, this outfit just hit every single point. I’d originally planned to wear the grey jumper + slightly cropped jean + loafer combo from my planning session, but there’s something about a jumper hem that falls right on the groin that just looks horrendously unflattering on me - LOOK AT IT! The fly of my trouser just needs to be OUT! I NEED THE TUCK! I have quite a long torso so without an exposed fly I’m just 50% top and 50% bottom, so a higher waist with a tuck-in is my best friend.
The roll-up on the cords* is completely by accident as I rolled them up when we got to the pool as not to act as a toddler wee-water hem hoover, but then I looked in the mirror when we got back and was like DAMN GIRL, you did the thing and the thing looks fab. The cords are a huge investment, but they are so damn comfortable that I was still wearing them in bed watching RHONY at 8:45pm (are you sensing a theme here?) and that is HUGE as when the clock chimes 7pm I am usually straight in my comfies (size down in these - I wear a US6 and am usually a UK12/US8). The good news is that Jigsaw do a great dupe*.
