Weekly Wardrobe #13
A layering experiment with GREAT results, an outfit for the Orchestra and *those* snakeskin trousers...
MONDAY
When I put together these Wardrobe Diary Substack posts I usually add to it daily; popping in a photo, writing my spiel and then checking in again the next day. However this week I’m sitting down on Sunday evening to do it all in one swoop, which means I have the benefit of hindsight. And having had time to sit on it, I don’t think I actually LOVE this outfit. I remember the premise - an attempt to layer up in a way that meant I was cosy for a day of working from home, but still felt chic. A vest top + a cardigan + an oversized shirt. You know that balance of being comfortable, but also feeling good enough in yourself to be productive? That’s basically what I’m striving for style-wise on a daily basis and this just…. wasn’t it.
Im terms of what I’d tweak next time, it’s a tricky one because really it’s the massive slippers that are throwing it off, but I don’t like my tootsies feeling cold and live in a draughty old house. Giving the jeans a bit of an iron probably would have helped matters too. Because of the footwear situation I feel like it’s just one of those outfits that is probably better reserved for a day when I’m properly leaving the house and therefore can select from my usual shoe collection.
TUESDAY
On Tuesday I headed up to London for a meeting and in terms of my outfit I have no notes. I wouldn’t change a thing!! I had a vision in my head of how I wanted to pair the boots with a longer denim and then the oversized coat, and it all just felt into place as I’d imagined. The perfect smart-casual mix for a meeting. Underneath I wore my silk shirt* which may sound a bit rebellious for December but I wasn’t actually outside for all that long and I just fancied a layer underneath that wasn’t a cashmere crew neck. Silk shirt + long length denim + pointed boots + oversized wool coat + tote bag. The way to do is to add an extremely thin layer - I have this Chantelle vest* in the black and a beige colour and they come in so handy during the winter. They make my more summery tops into all-year-round options and I’ve had them for yeeeears. A very good wardrobe investment I’d say.
