We’ve all been there, right?! Sucked in by the temptation of buying a new party season outfit that either is so darn festive that it serves just a two week slot in your wardrobe calendar and never gets the cost-per-wear down, or just doesn’t feel like you. I’ve done both. Many, many times. But this is the year that I refuse to be sucked in! I’ve done the Daily Sleeper co-ord thing and it just didn’t feel right on me. I’ve done sequins! And again - not me! There are a few exceptions to the frills and fancy items that I make an allowance for - my feather trim top has put in a good four year stint in my wardrobe so far - but this season there is no more room at the inn for these one-off pieces. I’m all about items that have some versatility in them and can be worn all month long instead of just on the big day itself. Need some ideas?! I’ve got you…
THE CLASSIC
This one is all about the texture. Items that you probably already own (and could easily use for this look if you just wanted to keep it simple), but in textures that skew a little more… wintery. I own the shoes and wear them with everything so vouch that they are a great investment and the belt and the bag would easily slot in to your everyday outfits. It’s the jacket that really makes it, but I love the idea of it with pale wash jeans and a loose t-shirt. With that satin blazer over the top?! Maybe with a red lip?! Yes please.
KEEPING IT CASUAL
This one skews more casual, but sometimes that is what you need. Whether it’s an outfit that works for the office that you could wear to after-hours drinks too, or maybe you just want something that feels a bit more chill for a relaxed evening round a friends. This is that!!! The top is a twist on a basic, literally (my favourite genre), the jeans are in a comfy cut that’s easy for everyday and it’s really the earrings and the boots that bring the flavour. I’m so into the idea of snakeskin boots that I actually just repurchased a Topshop pair on Vinted that I stupidly sold back in the day. I got them for £10!! So a good one to scour the secondhand sites for.
