Everything I Wore This Week: Breaking Out My Comfort-Zone
Attempting to stray from the 'jeans and jumper' path...
MONDAY
The Substack trueheads will recognise this outfit from Leandra’s newsletter from a few weeks back. When I saw it I instantly screenshotted it for a rainy sunny day and Monday was that day. Being a cheerleader for the little one’s swimming class in the AM and then working from home in the PM, it did double duty for both. I’d never think that January was the time to whip out my linen shirts, but I feel like this winter season is all about trying to make a wider range of items from my wardrobe work for the cooler weather so I don’t fall into the jeans and knitwear rut every single day. This week I’ve really tried to push against that - so here’s a formula to give a go for a smart-casual day of WFH - bold earrings + long sleeve cream t-shirt + black shirt + belted cord trousers + flats.
TUESDAY
Tuesday was my London day this week and when I left the house it was -2℃ - so warmth was high on the agenda. Luckily the train BLASTS the heating and I didn’t have too much outside walking to do between meetings, so I was still able to balance being practical, whilst also feeling a little bit chic. In the spirit of pushing myself out my comfort-zone this week I avoided my usual jumper and jeans trope and thought I’d dress up a bit and wear my secondhand blazer out for the first time. When I tried it on at home I really loved it belted up and actually that just makes it a top in its own right. Seeing as it was chilly, I popped a vest underneath, tied this blazer over the top and that was my ‘inside outfit’ done. Food for thought if you’ve got an event this week that you want to feel presentable for - belt a blazer! It looks FAB.
